How Avaya Helps with Enterprise Security

June 16, 2017

You don’t need us to tell you that cybersecurity attacks are on the rise.

Nearly every day, headlines and broadcast reports remind us of the latest attacks and risks on the cybersecurity frontier. A report published last year by Cybersecurity Ventures estimates that cyber crime will cost the world more than $6 trillion by 2021. And that same document indicates that 12 people become victims of cyber crime every second, equating to more than 1 million individuals around the world every day.

Discussions about state-sponsored cyber attacks tend to get the most attention. Breaches of retail point-of-sale systems, and business and medical customer databases, are also frequent cyber attack targets.

Enterprise communications systems are at risk as well. And the growth in the number and type of enterprise communications applications and devices is expanding the threat surface. That makes it a bigger challenge to monitor and defend all possible entry points.

But while we often hear about the cybersecurity problem, we tend to get much less information about potential solutions. However, companies like Avaya are working to help enterprise businesses address the important and complex challenge of cybersecurity. Avaya is doing that through a combination of initiatives.

That includes:

  • embedding security features into core applications, infrastructure, and platforms;
  • leveraging automated tools to look for and identify risk factors; and
  • providing managed and professional services.

For example, Avaya has strengthened the encryption, event recording and notification, file hardening, and user authentication and remote access capabilities embedded in its core communications solutions for enterprises. Although it’s aimed at private sector companies in the financial services, healthcare, retail, and arenas, as well as government customers, this is U.S. military-grade security stuff working at the application layer. And it meets DoD/DISTA STIGS, NIST FIPS 140-2, and UCR requirements.

In terms of automation, Avaya Security Assurance Services is a new offering through which the company helps enterprise customers increase their security while reducing the manual effort involved in doing so. It performs more than 140 standard baseline and 100 solution-specific security checks. And it’s available as a one-time service or via an ongoing subscription-based service.

Additionally, the company provides the Avaya Secure Delivery Private Cloud. This is a multi-instance unified communications cloud service that provides a lengthy list of documented security controls on a variety of fronts.
