VoIP Fraud Gets Easier to Spot

While there's no doubt that voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) service has delivered a lot of value in its time, it's also opened up a new problem for businesses: VoIP fraud. It's the kind of thing that can deliver big bills to a business, depending on how it's used, and turn what should be an advantage into a real detriment. A new measure from TelcoBridges and TransNexus, meanwhile, may help businesses better spot VoIP fraud before it can do real damage.


The new combined effort brings together TelcoBridges'  TSBC5000 Session Border Controller (SBC) with TransNexus' NexOSS system, incorporating a slate of back office applications into a VoIP gateway. With such things as least-cost routing , traffic reporting and more now directly added to a gateway, it becomes a comparatively simple matter to have VoIP fraud detection systems built directly into the hardware that helps make VoIP possible for many users in the first place.

With the system in place, VoIP operators can better set up specific points on call rates, keep a closer eye on network traffic, and add billing reports. The system integrates readily with session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking and several other systems to provide the greatest overall value. This isn't the first time that the duo has worked together; TransNexus' NexOSS has been part of the TelcoBridges Tmedia Gateway line since 2010. By adding NexOSS to the SBC, though, it's a development that only gets better.

Those who want better insight into TransNexus and its operations, meanwhile, need only head for Fort Lauderdale and the ITEXPO event taking place through Friday at the Broward County Convention Center. TransNexus has a booth at the event, and can be found at Booth 416.

Since VoIP fraud can represent a huge expense for businesses that really puts a crimp in operations, it's worth considering a means to combat that fraud before it can become a serious problem. With TransNexus and TelcoBridges' approach, it's possible to spot that fraud right from a system that already should be in place, meaning that it doesn't take a lot of extra operational or capital expense to set it all up. That's a boost to cost savings right there, and when the value of VoIP fraud is considered—one arrest involved $4.4 million in VoIP fraud, and that back in 2012—it makes the value of stopping it all the potentially greater.

Stopping VoIP fraud before it means a big bill for your business can be a huge accomplishment, even if it doesn't necessarily generate that much more cash. TelcoBridges and TransNexus have made it just a little easier to stop a problem before it starts.
